Child Benefit claim form (CH2)
Go to the link below and use the on screen form CH2 to claim Child Benefit.
If you can't open the form use the 'print then complete' version.
www.gov.uk/child-benefit-claim-form-ch2

Claim Child Benefit
You get Child Benefit if you're responsible for a child under 16 (or under 20 if they stay in approved education or training).

Only one person can get Child Benefit for a child.

You must report any change of circumstances to the Child Benefit Office.

You may have to pay a tax charge if your or your partner's individual income is over £50,000.

You can choose not to get Child Benefit payments, but you should still fill in the claim form because:
• it will help you get National Insurance credits which count towards your State Pension
• it will ensure your child is registered to get a National Insurance number when they're 16 years old

For more information visit this link to see what you are entitled to.
www.gov.uk/what-you'll-get

Child Benefit when your child turns 16
Your Child Benefit stops on 31 August on or after your child's 16th birthday if they leave education or training. It continues if they stay in approved education or training, but you must tell the Child Benefit Office.

You'll be sent a letter in your child's last year at school asking you to confirm their plans.

Income Tax
Check how much Income Tax you paid last year
Once your Income Tax has been calculated, you'll be able to use this service to check how much you paid from 6 April 2016 to 5 April 2017.

You can't use this service until your tax has been calculated. This happens between June and October.

If you didn't pay the right amount of tax, you can also use the service to:
• see why you paid too much or too little
• arrange a refund - if your P800 tax calculation says you can do this online
• find out how HMRC will collect any money that you owe

What you'll need
Make sure you have:
• your National Insurance number
• your P60 or a recent payslip

Visit this link to check you income tax payment for last year.

Self Assessment tax returns
Sending a tax return
Once you've registered, you can send your tax return using HM Revenue and Customs' (HMRC) free Self Assessment online service.

There are different ways to register if you're:
• self-employed or a sole trader
• not self-employed
• registering a partner or partnership

You can get help filling in your return at the link below.
www.gov.uk/get-help

You then have to pay your bill by the deadline.

Using software or paper forms
You can choose to send any Self Assessment return using software or paper forms.

You must use one of these options to send returns:

• for a partnership
• for a trust and estate
• if you get income from a trust
• if you lived abroad as a non-resident
• if you're a Lloyd's underwriter

You must use a paper form if you need to send a tax return for trustees of registered pension schemes (SA970).

The deadline for paper forms is 31 October (or 31 January if you're a trustee of a registered pension scheme or a non-resident company).
